The Mobile Marketing Trends of 2016

iphone-476237_960_720Just a few years back, simplistic cell phones made mobile marketing more of an option than a necessity. By the end of 2015, however, smartphone ownership had captured nearly two-thirds of all Americans. In fact, many smartphone users now spend more time online via their phone than desktop computers. This makes mobile marketing more important now than ever, and these trends can help local business owners finish out 2016 on top.

Social Media Selling

Over the past few years, Pinterest, Facebook and other social media sites have begun offering “purchase now” buttons on their web pages. These buttons allow social media fans to buy items right on their favorite brands’ social sites.

This especially comes in handy for mobile users who want to make a quick purchase but don’t want to go through the typical hassle of checking out via shopping cart on their device. Local businesses should utilize these buttons. While consumers don’t usually purchase expensive items via this method, they’re very likely to buy smaller items on impulse.

Apps Provide More Business Options

Mobile apps allow users to find businesses and make purchases whenever the mood strikes them. Someone looking for food delivery, for instance, can use GrubHub, Google Express and Amazon Prime Now to have their favorite dish delivered from a restaurant. Of course, apps like these require businesses to sign up, so getting on board with as many apps as possible is essential.

Geo-Targeted Ads

Geo-targeted ads allow business owners to send marketing messages directly to consumers who are nearby their company. While this unique marketing trend was once so costly that only businesses with large budgets could take advantage, increased competition has changed this.

This type of mobile marketing includes sending out coupons, providing store locations and a variety of other options. While most companies still don’t utilize this type of marketing, sneaky tactics are making the strategy all the more essential. Some businesses, for instance, will target consumers who are around their competitors. Those who don’t utilize geo-targeting may have potential customers snatched from under their noses.

Mobile marketing is no longer the trend of the future; it’s the trend of the here and now. While there are a variety of strategies that can pay off, the aforementioned can help local businesses outdo their competitors in the rest of 2016. By the time 2017 rolls around, it is likely most businesses will already be utilizing these tactics.
